Yummy Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe -
Do you like grilled cheese sandwiches and find yourself enjoying them right along with the kids? Well, if you eat them so often you feel you may actually be getting sick of the old melted cheese on bread grub, I have a great updated recipe.
I made this grilled cheese version when I ran out of the regular soft whole wheat bread we always use and tried a sour dough ciabatta we got at a fresh market instead. I added a couple of new ingredients as a test and got these very yummy results!
What I did was use this very tasty bread (it’s a flattened loaf, so you could use something similar to that, preferably one that has a crunchy crust, though) and added dried herbs and tomato slices. That’s it! But the combination of the ingredients really makes an awesome sandwich…
Here are the directions:
Cut the bread so that you have a square piece about the size of a standard cheese slice. Cut bread through middle to get two slices to make the sandwich. Pat a bit of butter on each half and top both with a slice of your favorite cheddar cheese.
Sprinkle each side with some oregano, rosemary and parsley. Cut two slim slices of tomato and place on top on one of the cheese slices. Sprinkle a bit more herbs on top of tomatoes and drizzle with a bit of olive oil.
Close up the sandwich and place in middle rack of regular or toaster oven. Put on grill setting for about 2 minutes. Turn sandwich over and grill for an additional minute and a half or two minutes. Take out and put on plate!
Oven times may vary, depending on your oven; just keep an eye on the melting cheese, making sure it doesn’t turn brown and overcook.
You can serve the sandwich with your favorite chips, carrots, salad, whatever you like. It makes for an excellent lunch!Pin It
