As I have mentioned before in a previous post or two, my daughter Emma is potty trained and uses the toilet. But, what I didn’t say until now is that she’s not completely night trained – yet…But, I do like to think that’s she’s off diapers since she only wears the night-time “padded underwear” to go to bed.
These underwear-disguised overnight diapers work quite well, so I thought I would post a review on the brand we’ve been using for the last few weeks, Pampers Underjams Diapers for Girls. The Underjams go on like underwear, but they absorb much more than a diaper does. Don’t hate me here… but my daughter has been a 12-hour sleeper since day one. While this is really great, it also means that she often woke up in a puddle with regular diapers, especially as she got older and bigger. So, when we tried the sturdier “night underwear”, we never went back.
Usually, we have a specific brand we buy, but when I saw that the Pampers Underjams Diapers were cheaper and had more in the box, I thought it was worth to give them a try. They are very similar to the other overnight diapers we use, and the material is very soft and comfortable on my girl’s skin. So far, there haven’t been any significant leaks.
Knowing that Emma goes potty a lot throughout the night, we’ve been trying to stop giving her any drinks an hour or two before she goes to bed. However, there have been the ‘occasional’ instances when Emma got to playing and I got to writing and neither of us remembered to refill her sippy cup. Of course, when this happens the poor girl is super-thirsty when it’s almost time to go to bed. When we give her water at this point, she naturally drinks at least one or two cups full…
That’s what happened a couple of nights ago, and it didn’t fail that the next morning, Emma woke up with a diaper underwear the size of a basketball. While the Underjams underwear diaper did well in holding most of the pee in, there was a little wetness that leaked onto her pyjama pants. Of course, we have to keep in mind that Emma sleeps for like 12 hours, so this wasn’t bad, considering…
Overall I think these overnight diapers do a respectable job at keeping kids dry. If your child pees a lot overnight, try and limit the drinks before bed. However, the Underjams do a good job at holding the pee, and won’t leak much after a regular 8-10 hours of sleep.
You can get Pampers Underjams Diapers for Girls. at Amazon for about $22.00 with free shipping.
