I had to jump at the chance to review these drinkable Premama pre-natal vitamins now that I am pregnant and looking around for different vitamins to take… I started with the huge horse-pill type (ugh!), and then found some gummy ones that weren’t too bad, although they missed some key ingredients that are supposed to be important during pregnancy.

Anyway, so I got these Premama pre-natal vitamins in the mail and I liked the idea that they are taken with drinks instead of having to be swallowed. I really, really hate swallowing those giant-sized pills that get stuck in your throat on the way down… Sometimes they just seem to stay there no matter how much water you drink to make them move!

I tried my first dose of Primama with lemonade, and it was quite good. The packaging instructions say that the vitamins are tasteless, although I could make out a bit of an after taste, but it wasn’t of the totally unpleasant type. This could just be because my taste buds are all screwy from the pregnancy hormones and many things taste bitter for me these days. So, for others, there may actually be no after taste at all…

It is very simple to mix the vitamins. All you do is take one packet, which is divided into two sections and either empty half of it (for half a dose) or both (for a full dose). If you take half only, you just need 6 oz. of liquid, and if you do both you need 12 oz. With the divided packages, you can take the vitamin all at once or twice a day , whichever works for you.

As far as the liquid to drink with the Premama pre-natal vitamins, it is best to use juice, or iced tea, although they also suggest milk in the instructions. I don’t know that I’d like it with milk, but would consider chocolate milk. I think for me, since I have that bitter taste thing going on, anything sweet would help to cover any after taste.

Another great idea is to mix Premama into any shake or smoothie and you’ll never even know you are drinking prenatal vitamins! They even suggest mixing it in with your morning cold cereal, which would definitely make it an easy way to take your prenatal vitamin.

The vitamins dissolve very quickly and just need to be stirred well into the liquid.

Premama contains all the ingredients that are recommended for a healthy pregnancy, including several of the B vitamins. B6 is especially nice because it helps with nausea. There is also folate, which is crucial in pregnancy and DHA for a boost in the formation of brain tissue in the unborn baby. Premama also has ginger root, which is also super-helpful with nausea and indigestion.

Other important components in Premama are vitamin D3, biotin, iron, calcium, magnesium, choline and coenzyme Q10. All of these are essential during, before and after pregnancy for the wellbeing of baby as well as for mama.

  1. These sound like a great alternative to the usual big pill vitamins!

  2. I wish those where around when I was pregnant. For some reason, the vitamins always gave me heartburn! That drink looks nice and smooth!

  3. I don’t mind taking pills but I take 4 each night (BC, 2 Fish Oil, and Prenate) so I’d love to be able to drink it instead of take a pill form. I love that it has DHA built in. Perfect for me since I’m nursing a 5 month old!
