Picky Eater -

Pancake My 4 Year Old Picky Eater

My 4 1/2 year old daughter has become a total picky eater lately… And it seems to get worse as she gets older. When she was two she ate grilled octopus, olives, shrimp, pancakes, you name it! But, now, I am lucky if I can get her to eat mac and cheese.

I don’t know if it is some kind of paranoia about food she may not like, a control thing, or a combination of both. I think it is both, but seriously, I am just about ready to let her live on Cheerios!!! Those she likes. Oh, and a bowl of oatmeal and raisins will never get refused either. Which is good. But still.

When she was smaller, we could convince her to eat anything, but as time went on, she would be more cautious about what kind of weird food we were trying to shove into her mouth. She would seriously stare at that spoon from every angle, grimacing at every dot or odd looking piece, declining it if it didn’t look right. Then, after a few tastes of things that she found “gross” she just won’t touch anything she didn’t know.

But, lately it has become even worse. The other night, I made her some mac and cheese because the spaghetti with ground beef my husband and I ate was just too strange looking for her. But, she would not eat the mac and cheese either. However, she hung around and kept looking at the plate and acting as if she was going to eat it only to laugh and turn away at the last minute.

At that point I knew, she just wanted me to go after her to eat, so she could say no, even though she did want to eat. The brat. Yes, I know, total control freak thing going on here.

Anyway, I just left the food there and ignored her, which is when she decided to eat the whole thing.

Yep, I have a picky eater with control issues. Awesome!!
